The mission of Heartbeat International Foundation, Inc. is to save lives globally by providing cardiovascular implantable devices and treatment to the needy people of the world. Cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer worldwide. It affects all genders, ages, income brackets, cultures, and religions. The treatments are expensive, easily costing tens of thousands of dollars. Heartbeat International Foundation works with a network of medical manufacturers and in-country doctors and hospitals in more than 25 developing countries and has saved over 11,000 lives; lives that would have otherwise perished. One such life is that of a young boy named Arturo… Arturo lives with his parents in a small town in central Mexico. When he was three years-old, he started having heart problems. His father owns a taco stand and works long hours, but his parents were frightened and worried because they did not have the money for the treatment needed to save their son’s life. They thought their son was going to die. “When my son was sleeping, sometimes I couldn’t hear his heart, and I knew one day he might not wake up in the morning,” said his crying mother. “I knew he needed a pacemaker.” Arturo’s father felt terrible, because he didn’t know what to do. “I didn’t have the money for that surgery. I couldn’t save my own son’s life.” Arturo’s family found hope when they met Dr. Ricardo Meneses of Heartbeat International of Mexico. Arturo traveled more than 100 miles to one of the finest hospitals in the area where he was rushed into surgery and a pacemaker was implanted. Now he can run and play with his friends and attend school. He hopes to one day become a doctor. “Thanks to Heartbeat International, I have my son. I didn’t lose him,” said Arturo’s father.
